Brad and Angelina at the Golden Globes

It’s the first week of January, and we all know what that means:  sitting in and watching the stars of Hollywood sweep down the red carpet looking their best in the latest designer creations. Maybe that will kick start your diet and fitness regime? I don’t think Kate Winslet started off her day with a handful of Roses chocolates. Do you?

As you know the Golden Globes are always a good indicator of success at the Oscars, and we think that three of the nominations for Best Drama are bound to grab more awards down the line: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, and our personal favourite, Slumdog Millionaire. Unsurprisingly these films are all up for Best Director too.

Kate Winslet Revolutionary Road

Both Kate Winslet and Meryl Streep are nominated for two separate categories: Kate for Best Actress in Revolutionary Road and Best Supporting Actress in The Reader, while Meryl is up for Best Comedy Actress in Mamma Mia! and Best Supporting Actress for Doubt. Other female nominations go to Kristin Scott Thomas for her moving performance in I’ve Loved You So Long, Anne Hathaway’s portrayal of a recovering drug addict in Rachel Getting Married and Sally Hawkins’ bright and beaming (verging on irritating at times) optimism in Happy Go Lucky.

The Wrestler

Mickey Rourke receives a nomination for his mesmerizing portrayal of a has-been performer who can’t let go in The Wrestler, against Sean Penn’s amazing depiction of the real life Harvey Milk in Milk. Frank Langella is nominated for his role in Frost/Nixon while Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell are both nominated for their comic roles in In Bruges. James Franco, who can still manage to look hot as a hippie, also gets a nod for Pineapple Express.

Watch the best bits from the Red Carpet on Sky 1 this Sunday night (11th) with Fearne Cotton and see if one of your favourites wins an award.
