Natalie Portman and The King’s Speech were among the winners at the Screen Actors Guild Awards last night (30.01.11).

The pregnant actress was named Outstanding Female Actor in a Leading Role for her portrayal of ballerina Nina Sayers in the dark fantasy Black Swan. Natalie beat stars including Nicole Kidman, Annette Bening and Hilary Swank to take the award.

Colin Firth won Outstanding Male Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal of Britain’s King George VI, who must overcome a stutter with the help of a speech therapist. As he collected his award the British actor quipped, “I’d like to thank security for letting me into the building.”

The King’s Speech also triumphed in the Outstanding Cast in a Motion Picture category and a thrilled looking Colin was joined on stage to accept the prize by his co-stars Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush.

Christian Bale was named Outstanding Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his portrayal of a drug addicted boxing trainer in The Fighter. As he took to the stage, he was joined by Dicky Eklund – the man he portrays in the gritty movie. “Thank you for letting me live your life and letting me play you,” Christian told Dicky.

Christian’s co-star Melissa Leo triumphed in the Outstanding Female Actor in a Supporting Role category, defeating fellow nominees Amy Adams, Helena Bonham Carter, Mila Kunis and Hailee Steinfeld.

In the television list of honours, 89-year-old Betty White was shocked to win Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her role in Hot in Cleveland. She revealed she was overwhelmed to pick up her first SAG accolade.

“I cannot believe this,” she revealed. “I must say this is the biggest surprise I’ve ever had in this business.”

Alec Baldwin clinched his fifth SAG Award, taking home the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series for 30 Rock.

Boardwalk Empire was named Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, while the show’s star Steve Buscemi also won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series.

Julianna Margulies came out on top in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her role in The Good Wife.
