This American bred actor charmed your socks off in ‘Coco Before Chanel’ opposite Audrey Tautou, but that’s not all he’s about. Graduated from Yale University with an English degree. He started his acting career while still in high school and throughout undergraduate at Yale. By his sophomore year at Yale, he already had an agent and was scouting roles. Finally, he landed his first role in the production of Master Harold and the Boys. However, he didn’t land a major role until he graduated and scored a part on Broadway in 1995 as the lover of Helen Mirren in ‘A Month in the Country.’
After staring opposite Rachel Weisz in ‘I Want You’ in 1998 the pair started to grow fond of each other and in 2001 they began dating only to break it off the same year. Unfortunately for all of us girls Alessandro didn’t remain single for very long. He is married to Brit star Emily Mortimer since January of 2003 and they have a son together, Sam Nivola, born in 2003. Other than being an apt actor, he is also a strong soccer player and even participated in a celeb charity match with Gordon Ramsay.
It may surprise you however, that before staring in Coco Before Chanel he claims that his French was ‘deplorable’ and he had to employ a tutor to help him with the role. His future works include the upcoming film, Howl, in which he stars opposite James Franco and Jeff Daniels. The story follows the poet Allen Ginsberg, played by Franco and the fallout from his poem ‘Howl’. Currently he is living in Brooklyn , New York with his wife and son and working on future projects.
