Anna Kendrick

From an early age, Anna Kendrick received the opportunities to catch the full-fledged acting bug. Born in 1985, this Portland, Maine, native auditioned for many roles in New York from the age of ten onward. She landed her first major job as Dinah in the Broadway musical High Society. Through this performance, at the ripe age of twelve, she earned Theatre World Award, Drama Desk, and Tony Award nominations.

Her work in theatre continued until 2003, when she made her film debut in the musical comedy Camp. Her next major film was Rocket Science in 2007, in which she played a quick-witted high school debater; she later stated that this role had been particularly challenging, but she was still praised by the critics for her performance. International audiences saw her in the smash-hit Twilight in 2008. As the character Jessica Stanley, Kendrick has secured her place in the entire series of film adaptations.

Audiences can catch her in her most recent project, director Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air. The film stars George Clooney as travel junkie Ryan Bingham who spans the country for his job: canning company employees. Kendrick’s character, the corporate go-getter fresh out of school, threatens Clooney’s career with the use of a technological system. Along the way, however, she has much to learn about adulthood and the fragility of life as she knows it. Her other films this year include The Marc Pease Experience and Elsewhere.

Critical acclaim will soon hit for this young actress—who names Molly Shannon and Amy Poehler as inspiration—as she is set to receive the Rising Star Award at the 2010 Palm Springs International Film Festival. We certainly hope she can channel both the wit and charm to help her aspire to many more great performances in the future.
