Though she emerged into the Hollywood scene with the wholesome Disney flick The Princess Diaries in 2001, over the past eight years Anne Hathaway has proved that her talent extends beyond feel-good, teenage movies. But, her personality has continued to remain true to her family roots.

Hathaway was raised in New Jersey in a Catholic family with strong values, but when her brother, Michael, revealed he was gay, she decided that she could not partake in a religion that disapproved of her brother’s sexual orientation. It is these strong personal beliefs that Hathaway has continued to follow throughout her career.

She does not get the unwanted press that other stars do because she does not call attention to herself. She stays away from drugs, stays healthy, doesn’t party, and is not seen with a string of men. Her values and her education are an important part of her life, as is making her career the best it can be.

Beginning her acting career by performing in high school plays, she went on to major in English and women’s studies at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. But, she transferred to New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study a year later.

At age sixteen she was cast in the short-lived TV series Get Real after a performance at Carnegie Hall with her high school choir. But success came in 2001, when she landed the leading role in Disney’s hit film ‘The Princess Diaries’, which inspired girls all over the world to follow their dreams. She immediately became a new teen icon and this performance was followed by a string of Disney movies like ‘Ella Enchanted’ and ‘The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement’.

As she has grown more mature, so have her acting jobs. In 2005, she appeared as the wife of Jake Gyllenhaal’s character, Jack Twist, in ‘Brokeback Mountain’, which was nominated for eight Academy Awards. The role was much more serious for Hathaway, and showed a new side of her acting talent. Having proved that she is more than a teen star, Hathaway returned to comedy with Meryl Streep in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, and then starred in the period flick ‘Becoming Jane’ where she played famous novel writer Jane Austen.

No one can get enough of Hathaway, whose healthy, refreshing face has recently sprung up all over billboards as the face of the recently launched Lancôme perfume, Magnifique.

But her list of successful movies will not end soon. There are many more to come! The most exciting new movies she is making are ‘Bride Wars’, a comedy with Kate Hudson, and Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ where she will play The White Queen alongside Johnny Depp, as the Mad Hatter, and Helena Bonham Carter, as The Red Queen.
