Besides appearing on every list of Hollywood’s sexiest actresses, Cameron Diaz has had an amazing film career and admits she’s just getting started..

Cameron was raised in San Diego, California where she excelled in all things athletic.  As much of a tom boy that she was growing up, Cameron’s striking good looks couldn’t hide forever and she was signed to the Elite Modeling Agency at age 16.  Over the next five years, she became devoted to her modeling career, living in places like Japan, Paris, Australia, and Morocco and appearing in a number of campaigns for fashion houses like Calvin Klein and Levi’s.  Upon her return to the states, Cameron continued modeling in L.A. and decided to audition for a part in The Mask (1994).  With no previous acting experience, she was surprised to find that she landed the female lead, starring opposite Jim Carrey.  After this breakthrough role, Diaz spent time developing her acting skills, appearing in a string of independent films.  In 1997, the up and coming actress shared the screen with film veteran Julia Roberts and dazzled us with her performance in My Best Friend’s Wedding.  With her foot in the door, Cameron was cast in the box office hits There’s Something About Mary (1998) and Being John Malkovich (1999) in roles which earned her widespread recognition and critical acclaim.  From here, the actress had leading parts in Oliver Stone’s Any Given Sunday (1999), the chick flick Charlie’s Angels (2001), the romantic thriller Vanilla Sky (2001), and voiced the role of Princess Fiona in the hit animation Shrek (2001).

In 2002, Cameron appeared in Martin Scorsese’s Academy Award nominated film Gangs of New York.  While the actress remembers this role as the pinnacle of her career, it also marks a turn for the worst in the her personal life.  It was during this time that she split from fiancee Jared Leto (the two dated for four years) and embarked on a failed relationship with English musician Julian Barry.  Putting her love woes aside, Cameron’s career began to flourish and she became one of Hollywood’s highest paid actresses, earning $20 million to reprise her role in Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (2003).  In recent years, the actress has added to her repertoire of film credits, appearing in the ongoing Shrek sequels, The Holiday (2006), and joining Ashton Kutcher in What Happens In Vegas (2008).

With an ever-expanding list of blockbusters under her belt, it’s hard not to take notice of the starlet’s dedication to film making.  Yet, it seems her acting chops aren’t the only source of attention, with her dating life attracting a daily media frenzy.  Since ending a three year (and much publicized!) relationship with singer Justin Timberlake in early 2007, Cameron has been romantically linked to John Mayer, actor Gerard Butler, and British model Paul Sculfor.  While it’s true that men have come and gone in Cameron’s life, one relationship has remained strong on and off the pages of tabloid magazines.  Her friendship with actress Drew Barrymore has been her saving grace through the ups and downs of her life.  Barrymore recently gushed about their bond, telling Look, “Cameron Diaz is one of the greatest friend anyone can ever have.”

Up next, the actress will be starring in the 2009 horror flick, The Box.  The mystery thriller co-stars James Marsden (hottie alert!) and Frank Langella (Good Night, and Good Luck, Frost/Nixon).
