Up-and-coming American actor Chris Pine has been on our radar ever since his silver screen debut as Anne Hathaway’s love interest in The Princess Diaries.  For an actor who has managed to stay out of the limelight over the years, we are predicting a sudden change with his new film, the highly anticipated Star Trek, hitting theatres soon.

Raised in Los Angeles by his thespian parents, the handsome actor was practically born into showbiz.  Choosing to lead a normal teenage life, it was during his time at the prestigious University of California at Berkeley that Pine became serious about acting.  Immediately drawn to theater, he appeared in a number of stage productions at UC Berkeley and at various theatres and festivals throughout L.A.  Beginning in 2003, Pine landed several TV gigs, appearing in ER, The Guardian, and CSI: Miami.  His big break came when he was cast in the second installment of The Princess Diaries, 2004′s Royal Engagement, portraying the charming Lord Nicholas Devereaux.  After riding the success of this box-office hit, the actor returned to television, appearing in episodes of HBO’s Six Feet Under.  In recent years, Pine has starred in the romantic comedies Just My Luck (2006) and Blind Dating (2007), acted alongside Jeremy Piven, Andy Garcia, and Ben Affleck in the action flick Smokin’ Aces (2007), and appeared in the indie film Bottle Shock (2008).  While he’s been dedicated to making a name for himself in Hollywood, the actor has managed to romance model/actress Beau Garrett.  The two have been dating for several years now and have been spotted everywhere from the front row at the Lakers to feeding the homeless on Thanksgiving day.

Pine as Captain Kirk in Star Trek

Pine’s leading role as Captain Kirk in the upcoming Star Trek blockbuster is sure to be his breakthrough performance.  The role of Kirk, who was originally played by legendary actor William Shatner in the earlier films, was first rumoured to be given to Matt Damon.  Much to Damon’s surprise, director J.J. Abrams broke the news that the younger and more suitable for the part, Pine, had been cast instead.  I guess the 40-year-old actresses aren’t the only ones having trouble in Hollywood!  The much buzzed about film co-stars Jennifer Morrison, Eric Bana, Winona Ryder, and Zoe Saldana and has been “sexed up for a new generation” according to Pine.  The rising star adds that he’s enthusiastically awaiting the film’s May release, explaining, “I’m like an 8-year-old kid on Christmas Eve.”  Not much of a sci-fi fan myself, I can assure you that Pine’s good looks are enough of a persuasion to catch this flick.
