Christopher Eccleston recently came clean to explain why he chose to step down from such a high paying role of playing the Doctor. He says it was principles and a bad clash with the management.
Though he names no names he does let one example of a director treating prop people poorly. Eccleston points out that no one should respect a man with that behaviour and has even declined returning for the 50th anniversery. Source
