An icon in her own right, St. Elmo’s Fire star Demi Moore has appeared in over 41 films and has been nominated and won over 25 awards. She didn’t start out with the posh life she surely has now (or the cute hubby!). Demetria Gene Guynes was born in Roswell, New Mexico to her mother and stepfather; her biological father ran out before she was born. Her stepfather committed suicide when Demi was 18 years old after years of alcoholism and physical abuse to her mother. Demi was also cross-eyed as a child and was forced to wear an eye patch because of the problem (you would never know now!). She also suffered kidney problems and had multiple surgeries as a child. She also has been diagnosed heterochromia, which just means she has two different colored eyes (hazel and green-we never even noticed!). Before his death, her stepfather moved the family around over 40 times and eventually settled in Los Angeles, California. She never finished her high school years there because she dropped out to pursue her acting career.
Her first film was a 3-D horror film called Parasite. Her first TV breakout role was Jackie on the soap General Hospital in the early 80’s. However, it was the mid-80’s that shot Demi to stardom with roles in both St. Elmo’s Fire and About Last Night. More successful 80’s films Demi starred in include Ghost, A Few Good Men, Indecent Proposal, Disclosure, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. She was named a member of the 80’s ‘Brat Pack’, a group of young stars of the time. After a short break, Moore sprung back up on the silver screen with a role in the 2003 film Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. She has also appeared in Bobby and Mr. Brooks. She has also tried in her hand in producing, working on three Austin Powers movies.
In her personal life, Demi is in her third marriage to sexy actor Ashton Kutcher. She was first married to singer Freddy Moore for 6 years. After their divorce, she was engaged to Emilio Estevez. While she was engaged she met Bruce Willis and broke off the engagement to Estevez. Willis and Moore were married two months later; the pair have three girls together (who are becoming stars in their own right), Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah. Demi’s last name is legally Kutcher, but she still uses Moore in her professional career. Demi is an avid doll collector and Ashton can frequently be found Tweeting about his fear of the thousands of them (perhaps this is a little bit creepy, Demi?) Moore is also the face of Helena Rubinstein cosmetics.
Moore has also had her fair share of controversy, almost exclusively dealing with Vanity Fair. In 1991, she appeared completely nude while 7 months pregnant on the cover of the magazine. There was much controversy at the time (even though we think she looks great!) but it obviously didn’t bother Demi, because a year later she again posed nude on the cover, this time wearing nothing but the suit artist Joanne Gair painted on her. She also faced criticism when she started dating Ashton because he is 16 years her junior. We think everyone’s just jealous. Now in her mid-40’s, Demi is doing anything but slowing down! She has two movies coming out in 2009, The Joneses with David Duchovny and Bunraku with Josh Hartnett and Woody Harrelson. We have a feeling it will be awhile before we hear the last of Demi Moore…
