Just who is Eva Green? The bewitchingly beautiful star that shot to fame as the woman who broke Bond’s heart in ‘Casino Royale’ is something of an enigma who refuses to follow Hollywood rules.

Born in France in 1980 to a Swedish father and French mother, who was also an actress, Eva left school to pursue acting at 17. After 3 years studying acting in Paris and a stint at directing in America, she caught the eye of Bernardo Bertolucci, the director of Liv Tyler’s breakout film ‘Stealing Beauty’. Bertolucci cast her in ‘The Dreamers,’ which attracted attention for her full frontal nudity in several scenes of the film. Their work together inspired Bertolucci to describe Eva as being “so beautiful it’s indecent.” Showing that her skills reach beyond acting, she also composed original music and recorded a few soundtracks for the film score.

Next up was Ridley Scott’s ‘Kingdom of Heaven’, a huge commercial success that raised her profile further, giving her international exposure. Not wanting to be typecast after her role in The Dreamers and Kingdom of Heaven, Eva turned down the femme fatale role in The Black Dahlia- the role later went to Hilary Swank. Eva instead chose to become the sexy, smart and sassy secret agent Vesper Lynd that stole Bond’s heart and then walked all over it.

Eva won rave reviews for Casino Royale, and has proven herself a wanted actress. Yet, she refuses to relocate from London (she has been living in Primrose Hill for the past three years) to Los Angeles. With her smoky eyes and impeccable, eclectic (sometimes eccentric) dress sense, she is outspoken about the damage that Hollywood does to young actresses and is determined to make her own way. Her partner, Marton Csokas, is a fellow actor and together they successfully avoid the paparazzi.  Sorry to disappoint, but you’ll never see her falling out of nightclubs half dressed.

An unconventional role is up next in Eva’s latest film, Cracks, which is set to be released December 4th. A refreshing return for Eva to a less ‘blockbuster’ film set with an all female cast, Eva plays ‘Miss G,’ a glamorous and avant-garde new teacher at a girls’ boarding school in the 1930s. Miss G, however, is not all that she seems and the film promises to be very dark and intense, a bit like Eva herself.
Any nearer to solving Eva? Not really, but that seems to be how she likes it. She’s an actress, not a celebrity or a brand to be marketed.

Following the release of Cracks, Eva will star in Womb with Matt Smith (David Tennant’s replacement in Dr. Who). In Womb Eva decides to clone her husband after he dies in a car accident after a life-long romance with him- a reaction to feeling like she cannot live without him.
