Vivienne Westwood has paid tribute to her ex-partner Malcolm McLaren, who died yesterday (08.04.10).

The legendary designer opened the iconic SEX clothing store in London with Malcolm – where she developed the look and fashion of punk, and dressed Malcolm’s most famous project, The Sex Pistols.

Speaking of Malcolm, Vivienne told the BBC: “When we were young and I fell in love with Malcolm, I thought he was beautiful - and I still do.

“I thought he is a very charismatic, special and talented person. The thought of him dead is very sad.”

The punk ethos and the anarchism which Malcolm encouraged were elements which have continued with Westwood throughout her 30-year career.

While she was estranged from Malcolm, their son together, Joe Corre - co-founder of lingerie chain Agent Provocateur and founder of menswear label Child of the Jago - was at his bedside when he passed in Switzerland from a rare form of cancer, and has also paid tribute.

He said: “He was the original punk rocker and revolutionised the world. He’s somebody I’m incredibly proud of.”

Although Malcolm had been diagnosed with cancer two years ago it was not thought serious, and in recent months he had been in good health.
