Gwyneth Paltrow

One of the most talented actresses today, Gwyneth Paltrow is at the top of every casting director’s list.  Since her start in showbiz, with 1991′s John Travolta hit Shout, we’ve seen Paltrow mature into a Hollywood staple, latest on the big screen with Joaquin Phoenix in Two Lovers.

Born in L.A. to a film producer father and actress mother, Paltrow began her acting training at a young age.  As a teenager, her family exposed her to many different cultures, living for some time in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, Paris, and Spain (Paltrow has admitted to speaking both French and Spanish fairly well).  After settling down in New York City to attend the elite private academy, Spence School, Paltrow returned to her west coast roots to study Art History at the University of California.  Only lasting one year, Gwyneth decided to dedicate herself to a full-time acting career.  After appearing in Shout, Paltrow was cast in a number of 90′s films including, Flesh and Bone (1993), Se7en (1995), The Pallbearer (1996), and Emma (1996).  It was on the Se7en set that Paltrow met fiance Brad Pitt.  The much publicized relationship lasted two years before it ended in 1997, explaining that their busy careers would make maintaining a happy marriage virtually impossible.  A heartbroken Paltrow delved back into work with 1998′s critically acclaimed Shakespeare in Love, a performance which earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress.  If only fellow Pitt ex Jennifer Aniston used their own breakup to fuel an Oscar-winning performance!  Since this breakthrough role, Paltrow has dazzled us with her acting abilities in The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), Sylvia (2003), Proof (2005), and Iron Man (2008).

While Gwyneth gained her film success almost instantaneously, her love life was a different story.  After being linked to a string of Hollywood hunks including Ben Affleck, Luke Wilson, and Robert Sean Leonard, she found herself single at a 2002 Coldplay concert.  Upon meeting lead singer Chris Martin backstage, the two began dating and were married just a year later.  Alternating between New York City and London (they bought their Belsize Park home from Kate Winslet), they have welcomed two children, Apple and Moses.  When Gwyneth isn’t being photographed with her adorable family, the actress is seen out on the town with good friend Madonna (Paltrow was Maid of Honor at Madonna’s wedding to Guy Ritchie and shares the pop singer’s passion for yoga).  Amid her very public persona, the actress has truly emerged as one of the more down to earth of her generation.  Her recent parlay into the blogging world with her “Goop” website (goop.com) has allowed her to become even more connected with her fans.  Everything from amazing recipes (the banana-nut muffin is a must!) to her thoughts on parenting are featured on the site.  Not only have we come to count on Gwyneth for a good flick, we’re now looking to her for the latest in travel advice, cookbook highlights, and fashion must-haves!

Her newest film, Two Lovers, co-stars the extraordinary talented (and at times erratic!) Joaquin Phoenix and follows a twisted love story down a winding path of lust and fury.  Critics have called the film “a throwback to the days when love in the movies involved the mind as well as the heart” and have predicted that it will please its audience and very well may win awards.  I don’t know about you, but we’re dying to see Gwyneth return to the silver screen in a dramatic, powerful role.  Why not make a night out of it?  Pop over to Goop and cook up one of her mouth-watering dinner recipes before heading out to the theatre!
