Would it surprise you that Scottish cutie James McAvoy didn’t always want to be an actor? In his mid-teens, having grown up with a religious background, James had aspirations to become a priest. As well as considering a career in journalism he had thoughts of joining the Navy. But upon graduating from the prestigious Royal Scottish Academy for Dance and Music, James interests changed. Soon after graduation in 2001, he scored a role in Steven Spielberg’s TV miniseries Band of Brothers.

In the following years, he appeared on several other TV series, but it wasn’t until 2004 when he stared on the show Shameless that things started to change. He met his now wife, Anne Marie Duff on the set of the show and the two have been together ever since.  After the show aired, James scored the role of the fawn Mr. Tumnus in the Disney flick The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. It’s perhaps from this point that his career started to boom and he was soon getting cast for lead roles in major motion pictures.

In 2006 the couple married and moved to the London area to live. It is, however, his recent films that have won him international success.  In 2007 he stared  in the movie Atonement opposite Keira Knightley that not only won numerous awards for the film but put him in the league with some of the most talented actors of today. His role in 2008′s Wanted which included actors such as Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman and was received well by both critics and fans.  As for the rumours out there that James might be staring in the upcoming version of the Hobbit, he laid those to rest in an interview with IGN stating : ”I haven’t been approached yet I promise you. I’d be the first to tell people if I had, but no. I’ve not been approached.  Those are just internet rumours” Look out for James this year in The Last Station, a historical drama that illustrates Russian author Leo Tolstoy’s struggle to balance fame and wealth with his commitment to a life devoid of material things.
