Born to hippie, anti-nuclear activist parents, Joshua Lucas Easy Dent Maurer, had an interesting early life. He was born on an Indian Reservation in Little Rock, Arkansas where his interesting middle name came from. It is Native American tradition to name children after something that happened during birth. The doctor accidently hit his head on the bedpost and it dented his little head!

By the age of 13 the family had lived in 30 different places which included the Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina. Josh and his three siblings finally settled down with their parents in Gig Harbor, Washington where he also attended school. Josh didn’t go to college, in hopes of jump starting his acting career.  He didn’t start scoring movie roles until several years after he graduated high school. He stared in several popular television shows until he landed his first film Alive.  However he didn’t start gaining popularity until he landed the male lead opposite Reese Witherspoon in the romantic comedy Sweet Home Alabama, as well as a role in A Beautiful Mind staring Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly.

As far as love goes, he dated Salma Hayek back in 2003 until they split the next year. Then he had a relationship with Rachel McAdams which ended late last year. He was a heavy supporter of President Barak Obama’s presidential campaign and joined fellow celebrities in helping the campaign.

As for charity, he is also a dedicated supporter of the Youth AIDS campaign and was named Youth AIDS Ambassador in 2005. He joined the effort after he shot an awareness ad for Aldo along with other stars such as Christina Aguilera, LL Cool J, Cindy Crawford and Elijah Wood. It’s nice to see celebs spending their time on a cause.

Josh is set to star in the upcoming psychological thrillerPeacock’, which follows bank clerk John Skillpa who has a alter ego,  a woman named Emma. Disaster strikes as a train crashes into his back yard revealing his true identities to the town. Watch as John desperately attempts to convince everyone all is not as it seems.  Josh stars opposite Cillian Murphy, Susan Sarandon, Bill Pullman, and Juno’s Ellen Page.
