Very few actors have the ability to dabble in film, television, and stage productions without failing or being attacked by critics for one of their performances.  Having had success in all three, actor Paul Rudd has proved to be an exception to this rule.

Raised in Kansas by his British parents, Rudd’s small town roots played a key part in his ambitions to become an actor.  After attending the University of Kansas, he made the move to Los Angeles where he used his charisma (charm that earned Rudd the status of student body President) to get started in the acting world.  The one-time frat boy began studying at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.  Upon graduating, Rudd attended a three-month intensive workshop at the British Drama Academy at Oxford University under the guidance of Oscar Award winning film editor, Michael Kahn.

After perfecting the craft, he landed his first gig with the 1995 horror flick Halloween, but was extremely disappointed by the public’s negative reaction to the film.  That same year, a discouraged Rudd appeared as Cher’s handsome, yet unattainable stepbrother in the film Clueless, a performance that quickly got him recognized in Hollywood.

Since this breakthrough role, Rudd has starred in a number of films included Romeo and Juliet (1996), The Object of My Affection (1998), The Cider House Rules (1999), Anchorman (2003), The 40 Year-Old Virgin (2005), and Knocked Up (2007).  Ever the multitasker, Paul has parlayed his talents onto the stage, appearing on Broadway in productions like “The Last Night of Ballyhoo” (1997), “Twelfth Night” (1998), and “Three Days Of Rain” (2006).

Over the years, he has also had recurring roles in a number of television series including Kirby on Sisters, Phoebe’s boyfriend Mike in Friends, has-been rock star Desmond on Veronica Mars, and the lamaze coach on Reno 911!  If you’re sitting there wondering, “Is there anything Paul Rudd hasn’t done?”, you’re not the only one!

While we can swoon over his boy next door good looks, I’m afraid we only dream of a fairy tale ending with the actor.  Rudd married his longtime girlfriend, Miramax film publicist Julie Yaeger in 2003, taking himself permanently off the market.  Currently living in New York with his wife and son Jack, Paul frequently flies to Los Angeles to film movies.  In recent years, he has partnered up with fellow Hollywood funnymen Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow (the three worked together on such comedic hits as The 40 Year-Old Virgin and Knocked

Up) and starred in 2008′s Role Models with Sean William Scott (American Pie, Old School).

His latest film, I Love You, Man, has an all-star cast including Jason Segel, Rashida Jones, Jaime Pressly, and Andy Samberg.  The comedy, which follows new engaged Peter (Paul Rudd) in his quest to find a best man for his wedding, had huge success during its opening weekend in U.S. and is slated for a UK release in just two weeks.  If you’re looking for a laugh or some cheering up, we suggest you keep I Love You, Man in mind!
