Ricky Gervais presents the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards

The Golden Globes kicked off the award season in fashionable style last night at the Beverly Hills Hilton. With wins for Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep taking home the two Best Actress Globes, whilst Robert Downey Jr and Jeff Bridges picked up the two Best Actor prizes.

Ricky Gervais played host for the evening opening his monologue with a couple of X-rated jokes, he then proceeded to quip that the American version of his BBC show ‘The Office’ had gone downhill. He also had a dig at Angelina Jolie saying:

“Actors aren’t just loved here in Hollywood, they’re loved the world over, because they’re recognisable,” he said. “You can be in the Third World, and you get a glimpse of a Hollywood star, and it makes you feel better. You can be a little child, a little Asian child, with no possessions, no money – but you see a picture of Angelina Jolie and you think, ‘Mummy!’”
There were also wins for TV series Big Love with Chloe Sevigny scooping the award for Best Actress and Alec Baldwin was named Best Actor for his role in 30 Rock. Avatar was the big hit of the night, named Best Film Drama, while its director, James Cameron, was also honoured.
