Tina Fey

This time last year, it was almost impossible to distinguish between comedian Tina Fey and American Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin.  With her hilarious renditions of McCain’s running mate on Saturday Night Live, Fey became an intricate part of the historic U.S. election.  We, like many others I’m sure, have become huge fans of this rising star’s work in the entertainment industry and are gearing up for her bright future.

Fey was raised in a suburb of Philadelphia, where she was exposed to comedy at a very young age.  She recalls her father letting her stay up to watch such cult comedies as Saturday Night Live, Monty Python, and The HoneymoonersFey went on to earn a degree in drama from the University of Virginia and afterward, made the move to Chicago, the home of American improv.  While in Chicago, she took classes at the notorious improvisational theatre, The Second City, where she was soon invited to join the cast.  After a few years of performing in a number of Second City productions including Paradigm Lost, Fey got her big break.  In 1997, she became a writer for NBC’s Saturday Night Live.  Who says watching television as a child doesn’t pay off?!  By 1999, Fey became SNL’s head writer, becoming the first female to do so in the show’s history.  During her time on SNL, Fey wrote, produced, and acted in some of the show’s best sketches including parodies of talk shows like The View and the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky scandal.  As one of its leading talents for almost a decade, she has won an astounding four Emmy’s for her work on SNL.

In 2001, Fey married her Second City costar, Jeff Richmond.  Since then, the two have made their home in New York City and welcomed their daughter, Alice, in 2005.  Transforming her life as a wife and mother, Fey soon decided to make some career changes.  In 2004, she made her film debut as writer and star of Mean Girls and in 2006, she left SNL to develop a sitcom, today’s critically acclaimed 30 Rock30 Rock has quickly gained success, winning the award for Outstanding Comedy Series at the past two Emmy’s.  Fey herself has won Golden Globe and SAG awards for her portrayal of lead protagonist, Tracy Jordan, on the show.

Fey returned to her SNL roots in 2008 to debut her legendary Palin skits.  Referring to the role, she has joked, “I was resistant to acknowledge there was a resemblance. But my kid saw her and said, ‘That’s Mommy’, so I thought, ‘Oh, great’”.  Fey has since retired her Palin impersonation, but can still be seen rocking her signature black rimmed glasses on the 30 Rock set.  With all of the success the comedian/actress/writer/producer (It amazes us how many titles Fey has under her belt!) has experienced in recent years, it’s safe to say that she’ll be on our radar for many years and many more brilliant performances to come!
