Undoubtedly one of the biggest rising stars of the moment, heartthrob Zac Efron has taken the world by storm.  Granted many of his fans are women like me who can’t help but be infatuated by his boyish good looks, Efron isn’t just a pretty face.  With the highly successful High School Musical series and the critically acclaimed film adaptation of Broadway hit Hairspray under his belt, he has proved that he encompasses the star power to fuel a lengthy career in showbiz.  His newest film, 17 Again, is sure to be the first of many blockbusters for young Zac.

Raised in California, Efron lived a normal, middle-class childhood before he got his start in acting.  As a teenager, he appeared in a number of school plays and began taking singing lessons (sounds a bit familiar, huh?).  While still in high school, Efron landed several television roles, guest starring on ER, Summerland, CSI, and appeared opposite Mary-Louise Parker in Lifetime’s Miracle Run.  His father urged him to pursue acting more seriously and after graduating, Zac deferred enrollment to the prestigious University of Southern California in order to do so.  In 2006, Efron starred in Disney Channel’s High School Musical, a role that catapulted him into the mainstream Hollywood scene.  He has since reprised his role as high school basketball star Troy Bolton in High School Musical’s 2007 and 2008 sequels.  The series quickly became the Disney Channel’s most successful film and was recognised as the most watched cable program in U.S. history with 17.2 million viewers per film.  That’s a whole lot of Zac Efron fans!

The “Zefron” mania continued with his role in 2007′s Hairspray.  Showcasing his singing, dancing, and acting talents once again, Efron joined the likes of John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, and Brittany Snow to bring us an amazingly fun film filled with big (and I mean big!) hair and musical thrills!  Slated for a mid-April release, his latest leap to the big screen with 17 Again is comedic look at what would happen if as an adult, you could relive your life starting at 17.  I’m sure many would kill for that opportunity, am I right?  When Zac isn’t busy promoting the new flick, he is hanging out with his lady, High School Musical co-star Vanessa Hudgens.  I think it’s safe to say this isn’t just a teen fling as the two have been dating for almost three years now.  Sorry ladies!  While you can’t touch, you can certainly still look!  Catch 17 Again later this month and be sure to look out for Efron’s leading role in Me and Orson Welles later this year.  The film co-stars Clare Danes and Christian McKay and after making its rounds at the Cannes and Toronto Film Festivals, has been billed as “one of the best movies about theater ever made.”
