Full house at the Handpicked Media Gets Social Event

Full house at the Handpicked Media Gets Social Event

By Lindsay Peoples

Yesterday Handpicked Media hosted a amazing social event for over a hundred bloggers and brands at the Royal Institute of British Architects.

With an emphasis on a passion for blogging, meeting professionals and mingling, the sessions throughout the day were a hit and included various speakers that are the best in social media today.

The morning started off with a buzzing breakfast where we all nibbled on pastries and visited the host of brand stations that allowed us to try various products such as the eyelash bar from the fabulous team at Shu Uemura, hair transformations at Hersheson’s Blow Dry Bar and see the new products from brands such as Bourjois.

Then Garry Davis from Why Communicate and Rebecca Miskin from Hearst publications gave the audience insight on how to optimise their own blogs, and how altering small things such as the title or URL of your post can drastically change the amount of views it gets. Also discussed was the future of print in an online world.

Before lunch the crowd heard from the author of  ”Stop Talking, Start Doing”, Sháá Wasmund who motivated the crowd to take action and responsibility for their blog and commit to it enough to be able to profit from their endeavors.

And after a short break, sessions convened with talks on the power of narrative in the digital world from PR Expert, Mark Borkowski and Blogger etiquette from the lovely Jane Cunningham from British Beauty Blogger.

One of the highlights from the day were definitely the beauty and fashion panels, that took questions from audience members, and gave key insight in the industry from bloggers, and industry professional from Elle Magazine and Grazia Daily Magazine and our very own Deputy Editor, Emma Skipper.

It was great to see everyone come out in force to support the speakers on the day and we’re pretty sure everyone learned something! Plus, with #HPMsocial trending on twitter nationwide 3 separate times during the event, we have to thank everyone who attended and made the day one to remember.

The brilliant speakers, inspirational advice and lively discussion have prompted Handpicked Media to open up registration for #HPMSocial 2012 already, so keep an eye on Handpicked Media Gets Social website for updates, pictures and video from the event in the coming week.
