I Love You Man

I Love You Man

If you fancy a good old chuckle this weekend, unless you are planning to re-watch Ricky’s Fame DVD again (oh, is that only me?) then it has to a little trip to the cinema. Paul Rudd is fast becoming one of my favourite comedy actors, and after meeting him last week to talk about his latest movie, I Love You Man he’s edging to top 3!

I watched the movie before meeting him and thank goodness it really is laugh-out-loud funny, and I was watching it with film critics who really try hard not to smile – even in the dark, a tough crowd! This is the latest offering in this new breed billed, bro-coms, not quite as cutesy as a romantic comedy and equally not as gross-out, frat boy as American Pie. This sits quite comfortably in the middle, both sexes can enjoy this one, a one movie fits all.

Paul Rudd

The story is Paul Rudd’s character realises that when it comes to picking a best man for his wedding he didn’t have one single candidate. His search to fulfil the role takes him on a series of man-dates with loonies, until he finds one he tries to bond with. Enter Jason Segel (Sidney), he is the complete opposite to Rudd and all sorts of awkward and hilarious moments subsequently follow between them. Makes you wonder what men really do talk about, I must say you guys are weird!

It’s clear after meeting them they got on really well while filming the movie and are genuinely funny off camera too. When asked what made them laugh, Segel said Peter Sellers and Rudd was a huge fan of Withnail & I, both agreed the script was timelessly witty and clever.

I Love You Man might not be a classic, but I certainly recommend it as a good movie and you will laugh, I promise – and who can say no to that?!
