John Corbett

John Corbett wasn’t always the romantic leading man that he is today. Born in Wheeling, West Virginia in 1961, he was raised by his mother who worked as a waitress in a bar. He loved country western music as a child and learned how to play guitar from his uncle. After high school, he moved to California and worked steel factory while attending community college. John happened to take an acting class and when his professors noticed his natural talent they encouraged him to pursue a career in Hollywood.

His first major acting role was in 1990 on the television series Northern Exposure, where he played a radio disc jockey with a criminal record. Northern Exposure was critically and commercially successful. The show ran for 5 years and received a whopping 57 award nominations including an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series.

John became a bone fide sex symbol after appearing on Sex and the City in 2001. He played Aiden, Carrie’s crowd-pleasing love interest who came to represent the antithesis of the emotionally unavailable Mr. Big. His stint on the show lasted until 2002, the same year he starred in the indie film My Big Fat Greek Wedding with Nia Vardalos. My Big Fat Greek Wedding began as a small film, but good word of mouth allowed its popularity to spread, resulting in a total gross £256 million.

He continued to act in films including Serendipity, Raising Helen and The Messengers. He also released a country western solo album. Currently, he stars in the television drama series The United States of Tara alongside Toni Collette. Toni plays a woman who suffers from Multiple Personality Disorder and John plays her sympathetic husband.

John has never been married, and claims to have no desire to tie the knot any time soon. He has been dating model/actress Bo Derek for eight years. On 28th May he can be seen reprising his role as Aiden in Sex and the City 2. When rumours surfaced that Aiden would return for this film, John played coy and claimed that the reports were false. But it seems these denials were made to keep the new film’s plot extra secretive. Very sneaky John!
