John Lennon’s 70th Celebrations

Lady Gaga joined forces with Yoko Ono to kick off a week-long celebration for John Lennon’s birthday.  The singer—who was assassinated in 1980—would have turned 70 this Saturday (09.10.10).

Gaga performed with the We Are Plastic Ono Band at the Orpheum in Los Angeles on Saturday (02.10.10).  The tribute lasted three hours and other guests included the son of John and Yoko, Sean Lennon, rapper RZA, and actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The record label EMI is set to release refurbished versions of Lennon’s solo albums as well as previously unreleased songs on 5th October.  Other concerts paying tribute to the Beatles legend will take place in Liverpool , New York and Iceland throughout this coming week.

On Saturday, Yoko Ono will hold her annual lighting of the Imagine Peace Tower in Iceland. She told Rolling Stone, “The fact that this year is John’s 70th birthday year is very special for us all.  We are all together celebrating John for having given us so much good energy in his lifetime and now.”
