Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in high Hollywood demand after his role alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in this summer’s box office smash hit Inception; he is currently filming David Koepp’s thriller Premium Rush and is also set to star in Rian Johnson’s upcoming sci-fi flick Looper with Bruce Willis.
Born in Los Angeles, California, the 29-year-old actor made his feature-film debut in Robert Redford’s 1991 film A River Runs Through It, but his big break came in 1996 when he landed a starring role on the hit T.V. series 3rd Rock From the Sun opposite John Lithgow. Amidst his work on the show, a teenage Gordon-Levitt played one of the victims in the 1998 slasher flick Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, and starred in the popular teeny-bopper 10 Things I Hate About You alongside Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles.
After 3rd Rock ended in 2001, Gordon-Levitt took a break to study French Literature and French History at Columbia University in New York. But in 2004, he laid his studies aside to pursue several roles in independent films, transitioning from a child star into an adult actor.
His roles in Brick and Mysterious Skin in 2005 earned him critical acclaim at the 10Sundance Film Festival, and he rose to celeb status after starring in the 2009 hit 500 Days of Summer, which also earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
2010 has been a busy year for Gordon-Levitt with the success of Inception and the current filming of Premium Rush – the actor was spotted on the set in New York this July. Filming for Looper has yet to begin, and there are rumors circulating that Gordon-Levitt will play The Riddler in the next installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman franchise. Looks like Gordon-Levitt’s twenties have seen his growth into a versatile and credentialed actor, as well as a bit of a hotty too! Hope to see lots more of him on the big screen next year!
