Our favorite young drama-diva has sunk her teeth into a new accolade: Lily Allen’s appearance on the April 2009 cover of Q Magazine earned the inaugural “Maggie” Award for best magazine cover of the year. She beat several Obama features and even the naked Beth Ditto to claim the prize.

The online-based Magazine (“Maggie”) Awards were voted by more than 30,000 people in categories including fashion, entertainment, sports, and celebrities. A judging panel consisting of industry vets chose the winners from among the most stunning works of design and photography from the last year. Other winning covers came from Love, Clash, and even BBC History magazines.

In Lily’s triumphant photo, we see her bare back and in a checkerboard-print mini as she glances at us over her shoulder, all while standing between two live panthers. Fortunately, as the photographer John Wright explained, the animals were actually a single panther which remained in a cage for the entire shoot! The final project was a digital composite, but as Paul Rees—the Q editor—put it, “When Lily is in full flow, she could probably do more damage than a pair of panthers.”

The entire “Maggies” award campaign raised over £6,000 for the children’s charity Rays of Sunshine, helping improve the lives of children with serious and life-threatening illnesses.
