Christmas Lights

Oxford Street's lights from last year

Christmas will officially be upon us with the switching on of the West End’s Christmas lights this week.

The first to go on will be Oxford Street on Thursday (04.11.10) at 6pm.  This year the lights will be switched on in a simple ceremony which will not include performances.

However, also on Thursday, Rihanna will be turning the switch for the Westfield Christmas lights.  The singer will be joined on stage by children from Help a London Child to help with the big switch moment—which will include pyrotechnics and a set of Red Roses.  To help celebrate the lights and the release of Rihanna’s new CD, Westfield will also be offering 100 lucky fans the opportunity to meet the Rihanna.  For more information on the ceremony and the contest, visit Westfield’s website.

Regent Street will also switch on its lights with a star studded affair on Tuesday (09.11.10) with a grand ceremony.  This year’s lights will be Narnia themed to celebrate the movies 3D release next month.  The festivities will begin at 5pm and will be hosted by London’s Heart DJs Jamie Theakston and Harriet Scott.  Regent Street will be transformed into a winter wonderland, with entertainment, a surprise celebrity guest and live music.

The Bond Street Christmas lights will be switched on in a vibrant event on the following Thursday (18.11.10).  The switch will be accompanied by carols, live music, street entertainers, reindeer and even snow.  Celebrity appearances and a visit from Father Christmas are also expected for this event.  The ceremony will start at 6pm and the festivities will last from 5pm to 8pm.
