The Madonna Nudes-30th Anniversary Exhibition

Next week, pop icon Madonna’s Sticky and Sweet tour will be rolling into London.  If this isn’t enough Madge for you, an exhibition of nude prints of the star will open in Seven Dials on July 2nd. The shots, taken in 1979, depict an unknown Madonna as she struggles to pay her way through dance school. The intimate shots were taken by photography teacher Martin H. M. Schreiber, who paid a young Madonna a mere $30 for her modeling. Once he saw our Madge on the cover of Time Magazine, he realized the treasure he had stored away and offered the pics to Playboy Magazine-they were the very shots pictured in the 1985 September issue- and they shot Schreiber to fame.

Covent Garden’s village of Seven Dials will play host to The Madonna Nudes-30th Anniversary Exhibition. The diva’s photos will not only be available to view, but a select few will be available for purchase as well. The original Polaroid test shot as well as the pop diva’s signed release will be sold and hopefully you bring your chequebook along! The set is expected to fetch in excess of £40,000! For a more modest budget, memorabilia such as Madge badges, postcards, and books will start at just £1.

Impure Art, a UK art gallery, will be co-hosting. Jamie McCartnery of Impure Art said of the collection, “When you have wonderful nude photos of a beautiful young woman, taken by a great photographer and she happens to be a global icon, it’s a no brainer.  With such a fantastic central London venue and with Madonna herself being in town, we are expecting  interest.”

The Madonna Nudes will be showcased at 19 Earlham Street in Seven Dials WC2 2nd-19th July.
It will be open Monday-Saturday 12-7 pm and Sunday 12-6 pm.
