She may have opted for a dark hair revamp at the Oscars with a flash of gothic lip colour, but 2014′s superstar Margot Robbie is a blonde beach babe at heart. She grew up on Australia’s Gold Coast, hitting the beach in the idyllic way us Brits only get to witness via the means of Home and Away, The OC, 90210 and other such sunny TV shows. She has a country bumpkin side too, spending a lot of time at her grandparents’ farm when she was younger.

She caught the acting bug a the tender age of 17 when she landed roles in films ICU and Vigilante. This accompanied her conversion to city girl as more and more of her time started to be spent in Melbourne.

After a Margot Robbie beauty secret? Her vampy dark lip at the Oscars was actually achieved by applying a cherry black eyeliner to line lips and blending inwards with YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture Lip Stain in Violet Edition (£25.00).

In 2008, when Margot was 18, she made the Australian big time and bagged the part of Donna Freedman in Neighbours. Now we’re not saying that soap acting is the pinnacle of a career, and whilst we have a soft spot for Neighbours, it’s not exactly Golden Globes winning stuff. But Neighbours seems to have some sort of power within it to push its actors and actresses to greater heights. Think about it. There is no other soap that has ever come close to projecting so many eventual super stars into the great wide world. You want a list don’t you. Ok, there’s Kylie. We could stop right there if it weren’t for big names like Nathalie Imbruglia, Jason Donovan, Holly Valance, Russell Crowe, Liam Hemsworth, Chris Hemsworth (don’t start, we know he made it big as Kit in Home and Away, but he did enjoy one Neighbours episode before all that we promise). There was Jesse Spencer (my own personal childhood…and adulthood crush!), Delta Goodrem and Guy Pearce to boot. And now there’s Margot Robbie.

In 2010, two years later, Margot left Neighbours to pursue the Hollywood dream. She auditioned for the new Charlie’s Angels TV show which eventually starred Minka Kelly, and although she didn’t get through, she was called back to audition for the role of Laura Cameron opposite Christina Ricci in Pan Am, which made it big on ABC, though was cancelled after its first season in 2012. It had lasted for as long as it needed to for Margot, however, and her face was now firmly on the Hollywood casting directors’ radar.

After landing a small role in Richard Curtis’ About Time which also starred Rachel McAdams (read her Q+A on the film here), Margot reached the turning point of her career. Her beauty and talent landed her a role in Martin Scorsese’s Wolf Of Wall Street opposite none other than Leonardo DiCaprio. As we all know it was the must-see movie of the beginning of 2014, garnering rave reviews. Margot received numerous nominations from is as well as winning the Empire Award For Best Newcomer.

So what’s next? It seems that the ball has only just started rolling. She is already filming the comedy Focus opposite Will Smith, is set to star in the film adaptation of Z for Zachariah opposite Chris Pine and 12 Years A Slave‘s Chiwetel Ejiofor and in 2016 will be seen in cinemas world wide opposite Alexander Skarsgard as Jane in David Yates’ Tarzan. And we predict there’s much more to come.
