Cinema

Crazy Heart
Crazy Heart is the story of Bad Black (Jeff Bridges), a country singer who has hit rock bottom. After years of heavy drinking, he hasn’t written a hit song in ages and the best gig he can score is at the local bowling alley. When he meets newspaper reporter Jean Craddock (Maggie Gylenhall), it seems as if his life might turn around, but is she willing to help a wreck that is 25 years her senior? Bridges deserves all the accolades he has been given for this film, it is my pick of the week.

Up

Everybody’s Fine
Frank Goode (Robert DeNiro) is a newly widowed father whose children all have excuses why they can’t visit him for the holidays. He decides to travel across the country for a surprise visit to each of them. His children, played by Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale, Sam Rockwell, and Austin Lysy, are not only caught off guard, but now have to admit their real jobs, not the lies they have been telling their father. DeNiro plays a dejected dad if your family life is less than perfect, get ready for some sad scenes that press a few buttons. After watching an early screening, Sir Paul McCartney was inspired to pen an original song for the film entitled “(I Want To) Come Home.” Having been through a similar situation, he can relate to DeNiro’s character.

Whenever Disney and Pixar team up, the results are magical, and Up is no different. Carl Fredrickson has become a sour recluse after his wife Ellie died of old age. To get there, he ties thousands of helium balloons to his house. Little does he know, Russell, a Wilderness Explorer is stowed on his porch in hopes of receiving the badge for assisting the elderly, so the two are stuck together for an adventure that reaches new heights.

Jennifer’s Body
After a fire at a local bar, Jennifer (Megan Fox) gains an appetite for human blood. Steadily, the boys at her high school begin dying off, and Needy (Amanda Seyfreid), begins to notice. In hopes of stopping Jennifer’s rampages, Needy tries to uncover the truth behind her friend’s recent behavior, hoping to do so before she kills her boyfriend Chip (Johnny Simmons).
