Extraordinary Measures

Make this weekend a movie marathon with top flicks out on both DVD and in the cinema. I’m going for the dramas this week – Extraordinary Measures and Everybody’s Fine while Amy Adams and Matthew Goode are nice to watch in a bit of a cheesy rom-com, Leap Year. Fantastic Mr Fox and The Goods: Live Hard Sell Hard is out on DVD if you fancy staying in with your slanket and a tub of Ben and J’s.

Everybody’s Fine
With an all star cast featuring Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore and Kate Beckinsale, this drama follows a widower Frank (De Niro) who realised that his wife was his only connection with his children. Eager to reconnect with his kids Frank sets off to surprise each one of them with an impromptu visit, only to discover that their lives are less than perfect.

The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard

Extraordinary Measures
This flick sees the return of Harrison Ford (thankfully not as Indiana Jones) as he stars alongside Brendan Fraser in this drama film. A true story of John and Aileen Crowley, whose two children had a rare genetic disorder. Instead of giving up hope of finding a cure, John Crowley walks away from his top level corporate job and begins a quest to support a brilliant but under-appreciated researcher. The two develop a strong relationship, which is put to a stern test when the cure is near – a test that would affect the fate of John’s children.

The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard
For Entourage fans get your Ari Gold fix right here. This hilarious new comedy stars the man who makes megalomania sexy, Jeremy Piven is a used-car liquidator fighting to save a failing dealership. His oddball team, their antics and his charm could just help save the day, after all. Jordana Spiro stars as daughter to the owner of the dealership, who quickly falls for the smooth-talking Piven.  Ladies, we’ve all been there, but how does it work out? Bad guy falls for good girl with a ridiculous boyfriend in a manband, yes it’s funny, trust me – you will laugh out loud.  Always good to see Will Ferrell in anything, and his cameo is welcomed in our top pick of the DVD’s this week.

Fantastic Mr. Fox
Could Wes Anderson have possibly squeezed another celebrity into the new Fantastic Mr. Fox? We think not. This animated romp features the voice talents of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Adrien Brody, Owen Wilson, and Jason Schwartzman among others. Clooney stars as Mr. Fox, the sly rascal who steals food for his own brood from the three crooked farmers nearby: Boggis, Bunce, and Bean. Drama ensures as their farmers prepare to bulldoze the animal’s den.
