State of Play

Well film buffs another week of fabulous film releases, if you’re not sure what to see this weekend take a look at our pick of the best flicks out now. If there is one film you see this weekend we suggest tense thriller State of Play or if you’re game for a laugh why not check out Seth Rogen’s latest offering Observe and Report

State of Play
If you do make it to the movies this weekend this is a must see film. Russell Crowe plays Washington Globe news reporter Cal McAffrey in this intense thriller. McAffrey sets out to report on the double shooting of a petty thief and a pizza delivery man. His old Buddy Congressman Stephen Collins played by Ben Affleck is dogged with scandal as it becomes apparent that he was cheating on his wife, only to find his mistress has been pushed or thrown herself under a train. McAffrey soon becomes irritated when a young, scandal-mongering blogger in the Globe’s annoyingly popular online department (Rachel MacAdams) pumps him for information on his old friend, Congressman Stephen Collins. McAffrey becomes more and more involved in the case and discovers that the shootings and murders are linked. This is an extremely clever movie and it’s definitely one of those, don’t blink and you’ll miss it thrillers, edge of your seat stuff. Click here to watch the trailer now…

Shifty

Shifty

Shifty
Perhaps one of the contenders for best British film of 2009, writer-director Eran Creevy drew his inspiration from a former school friend, an A-grade pupil who discovered he could make more money in the real world by dealing drugs. Shifty is a raw film and depicts a day in the life of Shifty played by Riz Ahmed, a young Muslim crack dealer. He comes from a family who is well known and respected in their small community, Shifty himself is charismatic and intelligent enough to con even his closest friends into thinking he has an upstanding profession. When an old pal returns to his hometown, action meets drama at every turn, leaving Shifty fighting to hold his own…and struggling to stay alive. We also have a stack of goodies to give away from the movie, click here to win…

Observe and Report

Observe and Report

Observe and Report
This dark comedy starring Seth Rogen and quirky Anna Faris details the daily “9 to fiver” job of Ronnie Barnhardt, head of Forest Ridge mall security. The only perk about his mundane position is Brandi (Anna Faris), the cute makeup counter girl. But when Ronnie is called to action to stop a flasher, everything turns awry. Shortly afterwards, a masked man robs a shoe store, and Detective Harrison (Ray Liotta) is called in to asses the scene. Ronnie attempts to fix the situation, but is only reprimanded. Ultimately, he makes the decision to become a police officer, which requires an intense psychological examination that Ronnie fails. Depressed, he falls into a slump and ingests illegal drugs before making the decision to go undercover and arrest Dennis, the shoe thief. His pursuit of glory and real recognition leaves him with two obstacles: finding the man, and getting to him before the real cops do. With anything Rogen does expect some real laughs.
