The weekend is finally here but what to do with those summer nights? We recommend going with the girlies to the cinema for some major tear-jerking bonding or stay in with your favourite boy and check out one of the new DVD releases this week.

The Jodi Piccoult book comes to life on screen this Friday. Sara (Cameron Diaz) and Brian Fitzgerald (Jason Patric) had two children and a wonderful life, until their daughter Kate (Sofia Vassilieva) is diagnosed with leukemia. The Fitzgerald’s make the decision to conceive again in hopes that this new child can help save Kate’s life. Anna (Abigail Breslin) is born, and spends her entire life in the hospital with her sister undergoing treatments in order to save her sister’s life. After Anna finds out the reason she was born was to help her sister, her sister encourages her to stop the painful procedures and sue for the rights to her own body.

Once in her heyday as head cheerleader, Rose is now going through the motions of her mundane life working as a maid as she has an affair with the former lead footballer player and high-school sweetheart, Mac (Steve Zahn). A police detective himself, he convinces her to start a crime-scene clean-up business. Rose convinces her sister Norah to join her as the two found Sunshine Cleaning, the cleaning runs as a metaphor as the sisters deal with their own issues.

But Walt stands in the way of both the heist and the gang, making him the reluctant hero of the neighbourhood. Through neighbour Thao and his family’s kindness, Walt realises he has more in common with these people than he has with his own family, and they help him discover parts of himself he’s kept hidden away for years.
