Rachel Getting Married

Rachel Getting Married

With all the Oscar and Bafta nominations, we’ve well and truly caught the movie bug this week. There are three imply brilliant films released on Friday, yes we know exactly what we’ll be doing this weekend. First up is Rachel Getting Married. Anne Hathaway gives a superb performance in this moving film. A million miles away from her Devil Wears Prada character, Rachel Getting Married tells the tale of Kym (Anne Hathaway) a recovering drug addict who comes home for her sister’s wedding. Filmed in as a type of ‘fly on the wall documentary’, this emotional rollercoaster will have you glued to the screen from start to finish.

Frost/Nixon

Frost/Nixon

The second movie pick of the week is Frost/Nixon. Having seen the play, we are so eager to see how it has been transferred on to the silver screen. For those of you who don’t know Frost/Nixon (starring Michael Sheen and Frank Langella, who are both reprising their stage roles) is an electrifying battle between Richard Nixon, the disgraced president with a legacy to save, and David Frost, a jet-setting television personality with a name to make, in the untold story of the historic encounter that changed both men.

A definite must see this weekend, watch the trailer here.

Finally see the fantastic performance by Oscar nominated Sean Penn in MILK, the true story of the passionate Gay Rights Activist Harvey Milk set in San Fransico in 1977. A story that sees how one man’s life changed history when he was voted into public office in the US. His determination to fight for human rights as an openly gay man is a powerful and very moving story. James Franco and Josh Brolin also deliver stand out performances, directed by Gus Van Sant.

Tropic Thunder

Tropic Thunder

If the rainy weather is putting you off leaving your comfortable sofa, why not stay in with a DVD. For this we recommend Tropic Thunder, one for both you and your man friend. Packed full of laughs this war spoof film is well worth renting. Warning, if you are a bit squeamish, this may not be one for you as there is rather a lot of gore.

Out to buy on Monday, or enter our competition here to be in with a chance of winning  a copy.
