‘Rubbish!’ I hear you say, and to prove it Funny Women are once again hitting the comedy circuit up and down the country looking for the best in new female comedy. This is the 8th year of the Funny Women Awards and new comics are now being encouraged to sign up for the heats which are starting in London’s Leicester Square on May 8th and will finish at the finals of the competition back at Leicester Square on September 8th. During that time they will have been everywhere from Brighton to Birmingham and Liverpool, Edinburgh and Manchester…

Up to 24 acts will be selected from across the UK to take part in the semi-finals with 12 acts going on to perform at the charity final. Last year’s winner, London Hughes aka Miss London, was propelled into the mainstream with appearances at top comedy venues and on TV. Previous winners and finalists have included Zoe Lyons, Suzy Bennett and Sarah Millican.

The first prize for the winner is a week’s luxury holiday for two at the 5 star boutique Hotel Londa in Limassol, Cyprus and the finalists will get the opportunity to perform at the Londa as part of the increasingly successful Funny Women tour which takes place at the hotel and attracts big audiences on the island.

Funny Women are looking for stand-ups, impressionists, sketches, character and musical comics, ventriloquists – in fact anything so long as it’s funny. There are 18 different Funny Women nights up and down the country so there is bound to be one you can get to – and even if you’re not a funny woman yourself book some tickets as all funny women need an audience! So if either you, your mates or even your mum are a natural born comedienne and want to prove it, check out the list of venues at www.funnywomen.com and come on down, it could be the start of a whole new career!
