Rachel Weisz and Mark Rylance - Best Actress and Actor

The Laurence Olivier Awards were held at the Grosvenor House Hotel last night and gave its audience, including Kim Catrall and Keira Knightley, plenty of surprises.

The most coveted awards last night, Best Actor/Actress, went to Mark Rylance (Jerusalem) and Rachel Weisz (A Street Car Named Desire) respectively. Plus, our personal favourite, ‘Wicked!’, was voted the most popular show by the readers of Official London Theatre.

Weisz beat a number of talented actresses to the prize including; Gillian Anderson (A Doll’s House), Lorraine Burroughs (The Mountaintop), Imelda Staunton (Entertaining Mr Sloane) and Juleit Stevenson (Duet For One).

Best Dressed at Olivier Awards 2010 - Catrall and Weisz

We think it’s great that Rachel nabbed this prize for her role as Blanche DuBois, as she’s best known for her movie roles (including ‘The Mummy’ and ‘About A Boy’), so getting this stage award will definitely secure her reputation as an incredibly talented actress, as well as a pretty face… plus she looked great in her frock!

In other award news, stage actors and actresses came out in the best robes for the event and we’ve listed our best dressed below:

Our absolute favourites of the night were definitely Kim Catrall’s beautifully elegant, ruffled, ivory one-shoulder jobby and Rachel Weisz’s long taupe gown. Catrall’s was a lovely twist on a classic number and suited her soft hair and make-up perfectly, whereas, although Weisz’s gown was in interesting choice of material, it hung beautifully and balanced her pale skin and dark hair very well. Plus, it always helps when an outfit comes complimented by such a genuinely beaming smile, Rachel was clearly very happy with her achievement!

Jude Law and Keira Knightley

Other outfits to note were the hansom Jude Law in a very polished suit and Keira Knightley’s pretty patterned, short sleeved, Erdem dress and Van Cleef and Arpels jewellery. Although it’s a pity it showed off just how skinny she is now!
