Johnny depp in Public Enemies

Johnny depp in Public Enemies

After a scorcher of a week, things look set to cool down over the weekend. Avoid the downpour and stay in with a DVD, Confessions of a Shopaholic and Revolutionary Road are our picks. If you can’t stand being cooped up inside, head down to the cinema where you can watch gangster thriller Public Enemies.

Public Enemies
Depp shines as the charming and charismatic John Dillinger the bank robber whose lightning raids made him the number one target of J. Edgar Hoover’s fledgling FBI and its top agent, Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale), and a folk hero to much of the downtrodden public. No one could stop Dillinger and his gang.  No jail could hold him.  His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone—from his girlfriend Billie Frechette (Marion Cotillard) to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression. Also out this week are Ice Age 3, Red Mist, The Embodiment of Evil and Am I Black Enough For You.
