Ralph Fiennes

With so many movies coming out every week, it is difficult to keep track of who is in what film. Luckily for Ralph Fiennes, in the upcoming weeks, he is in quite a few of them, and justifiably so as this British actor definitely has a deserving background.

He really got his acting start when attending the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, then promptly joined the British Royal National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Exhibiting amazing stage talent, he became the first ever person to win a Tony for portraying Hamlet on Broadway.

Moving on to film, Fiennes no doubt has a taste for highly respected projects. His resume includes the movies Schindler’s List, The English Patient, The End of the Affair, The Duchess, The Hurt Locker, In Bruges, The Reader and the Harry Potter films. It’s no surprise that the prolific actor has been nominated for two Oscars.

We were shocked to learn that Fiennes almost turned down the role of Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter franchise, citing his lack of interest in the books. Luckily, he accepted, and is thrilled with how scary his character turned out. His nephew even got a chance to work with him in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, playing Lord Voldemort as a child.

Of course, playing the bad guy is a reccurring theme for Fiennes, as one of his first roles was as the brutal Nazi Amon Goeth in the Oscar winning Schindler’s List. For this terrifying role, he won a BAFTA award, and also deservingly earned a spot on AFI’s list of Top 50 Movie Villains.

Currently, Fiennes can be seen in Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, Cemetery Junction, which hits cinemas on the 14th of April, and as Hades in Clash of the Titans which is out now.
