Just when you thought the international hype over 50 Shades of Grey had finally settled, and the ever-circulating, never-any-substance-behind-them rumours regarding the film adaptation were losing appeal, news reaches us that Sam Taylor-Johnson has been (officially) named as director for the upcoming erotic epic.

Sam Taylor-Johnson to direct 50 Shades of Grey

Confirmed earlier today via the official E.J. James twitter handle, Taylor-Johnson is to take the reins *raised eyebrow* – so that’s a no to Angelina Jolie then.

We thought we were finally over the mummy-porn novel that spiralled into the stratospheric heights of stardom, but having watched the John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy, as directed by Taylor-Johnson, it appears our interest has been reignited.

And now we’d quite like to find out who’ll be playing Christian and Ana.

“I am excited to be charged with the evolution of Fifty Shades of Grey from page to screen,” Taylor-Johnson said. “For the legions of fans, I want to say that I will honour the power of Erika’s book and the characters of Christian and Anastasia. They are under my skin too.”

Producer, Michael De Luca has stated, “Sam’s unique ability to gracefully showcase complex relationships dealing with love, emotion and sexual chemistry make her the ideal director to bring Christian and Anastasia’s relationship to life.”
