Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Monaghan in Source Code

When decorated soldier Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) wakes up in the body of an unknown man, he discovers he’s part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train.

In an assignment unlike any he’s ever known, he learns he’s part of a government experiment called the “Source Code,” a program that enables him to cross over into another man’s identity in the last 8 minutes of his life.

With a second, much larger target threatening to kill millions in downtown Chicago, Colter re-lives the incident over and over again, gathering clues each time, until he can solve the mystery of who is behind the bombs and prevent the next attack.

I had the pleasure of seeing this last night and I was impressed. The film’s music score is dramatic (think Inception/Bourne Series) and Jake Gyllenhaal and Vera Farmiga are both great in their roles, all cumulating in a suspense driven and intense experience.

It’s not only one for the action/thriller junkies though, I had to wipe away a quick tear as the character’s personalities developed and their emotions ran high.

It’s a bit of a mind-boggler, but I was caught up in the film from the get go as you try and work out what’s going on. Two thumbs up from me and I’d definitely recommend it for anyone looking to catch a fast paced and intense film… or just a quick peep at Gyllenhaal and that lovely facial hair.

Catch in cinemas from 1st April 2011.
