You may recognise her as Bo, the little girl from the alien movie, Signs (2002), or as Olive in Little Miss Sunshine, but Abigail Breslin is all grown up now and has established herself as one of Hollywood’s most talented young actresses.

Born in New York City 14 April 1996, Abigail began her acting career at age 3, starring in commercials until she was given her role in Signs at the age of 6. After Signs, she made guest appearances on several hit shows, but it wasn’t until Little Miss Sunshine that Abigail got the attention she deserved. Her role as the adorable, pageant-loving, Olive, earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress, making her the fifth youngest actress ever to be nominated for an Oscar in that category. Although she didn’t win the coveted award, her critical acclaim from Little Miss Sunshine helped her land roles alongside big Hollywood names in movies like No Reservations (Catherine Zeta-Jones), Definitely, Maybe (Ryan Reynolds), My Sister’s Keeper (Cameron Diaz), and Zombieland (Jesse Eisenberg), and in 2008, Abigail got her first starring role as aspiring reporter, Kit Kittredge, in Kit Kittredge: An American Girl.

In her most recent role, Abigail Breslin plays Sarah Jessica Parker’s daughter, Hailey, in this year’s star-studded New Year’s Eve. The young actress, who was ranked #8 in Forbes Magazine’s 2007 list of ‘Young Hollywood’s Top-Earning Stars,’ earning a reported $1.5 million in 2006, now has four movies lined up to be released in the upcoming year.

But don’t count on Abigail to stay within her comfort zone and continue doing light and fluffy kid-friendly films, because her upcoming roles are a bit more mature. The Class Project (2012) tells the story of two girls, who, after getting fed up with their mother’s alcoholism and abusive boyfriends, make a plan to kill her. Virgin Mary is a comedy about two best friends who make a pact to have sex with each other if they don’t have sex by the time they’re eighteen, and Innocence is about a young woman who realises that her private school is home to a sect of vampires.

Breslin has said that if she isn’t acting when she grows up, she’d like to become either a veterinarian or a fashion designer. No doubt that Abigail would be successful at whatever career she may have in the future, but it doesn’t seem like Hollywood is ready for her to retire any time soon.

Check out the young talented actress in New Year’s Eve, which is set to release 8th December.
