Anton Yelchin was born Anton Viktorovich Yelchin on March 11, 1989 in Leningrad, Russia. His parents were both successful figure skaters and his grandfather was a professional football player. When Anton was only 6 months old, his parents moved their family to the United States to become skating coaches.
Though his parents encouraged him to also take up figure skating, Anton was interested in acting from the early age of 4. He attended acting classes in Los Angeles while in school and he got his first big acting role at the age of 10, on ‘ER’. At 11, he starred alongside Anthony Hopkins in ‘Hearts in Atlantis’, and since then he’s appeared in more than twenty films and television shows.
From 2004 to 2006, Anton had guest starring roles on shows like ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent’ and ‘Criminal Minds’. He was highly praised for his portrayal of kidnap victim Nicholas Markowitz in the film ‘Alpha Dog’ in 2007, which also starred Justin Timberlake. Following that film’s success, Anton scored more leading roles in big budget movies like ‘Star Trek’ in 2009 and ‘Terminator: Salvation’ later that same year.
This year, Anton stars in Jodie Foster’s ‘The Beaver’, in which he plays Mel Gibson’s son and Jennifer Lawrence‘s love interest.
