Hailee Steinfeld

Relatively new to Hollywood, Hailee Steinfeld steals the screen in her first full length film, “True Grit”- an adaptation of the novel by Charles Portis and remake of the John Wayne original.

Born on 11 Dec. 1996 in Tarzana, Los Angles, California, Steinfeld began home schooling in 2008; four years after she began acting. Her beginning roles centered around many teen-oriented shorts, “She’s a Fox” and “Grand Cru”, and television, Sons of Tucson and Back to You.

Really making a scene in “True Grit”, Hailee Steinfeld displays a growing talent and described by critics as surpassing the portrayal of Mattie Ross by Kim Darby in the 1969 film, “delivering the mannered dialogue with ease and bringing a passion that Darby lacked.” In a classic western, Steinfeld takes on the role of an ornery heroine who hires a rough and tough U.S. Marshall, Jeff Bridges, to track down the man who killed her father.

Steinfeld at the SAG Awards

Being only 13 in her breakthrough role, Steinfeld really hits the nail on the head; earning an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress and winning Best Young Actress at the Critic’s Choice Awards, she is sure to be on the list of up-and-comings. She was also nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role at the 2011 SAG Awards. Named on the best dressed list, Steinfeld looked more mature than her 14 years in the chic and modern striped Prada dress.

There have been rumors her next role will be in the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ “The Hunger Games” as Katniss Everdeen. Even if the role doesn’t work out for her, it’s likely that she’ll have a variety of projects to work on, with some serious potential so keep your eyes out for her on screen in the future.
