Jamie Bell profile

Jamie Bell, starring in 'The Eagle.'

Jamie Bell has grown up before our eyes having stared as the leading role in the film, ‘Billy Elliot.’ Little do we all know that film is a mere reflection of his own life as a young boy.

He was born in Billingham, England in 1986, and since the age of six, Bell has enjoyed dancing. He comes from a family of female dancers including his mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. He kept it hush, hush for the fear of being made fun of, but when he finally stepped out from the shadows he realised this was what he wanted to do in life.

Of course, the teasing ensued being called names like, “Ballerina Boy,” but Bell pushed it aside and continued to dance.

His big break came in 2000 when he was cast as the role of ‘Billy Elliot,’ about a young boy who is torn between the love of dance and his family. Bell grew up without knowing who his father was, and this movie seemed to hit home.

Bell has numerous big-time awards under his name including the Best Newcomer Award, and a Best Male Performance at the BAFTA’s. He even beat Russell Crowe, Tom Hanks, Michael Douglas, and Geoffrey Rush!

He was linked with actress Evan Rachel Wood, whom he met while filming Green Day’s music video, “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” in 2005. Their romance lasted for about a year and soon fizzled out in 2006.
