Maya Rudolph, 39, was born in Gainesville, Florida. Her father, Dick Rudolph, was a music producer and her mother, Minnie Riperton, was a soul singer. Maya’s family moved to California in 1973 to further her mother’s singing career.

Maya attended St. Augestine by the Sea School as a child. While there, she became close friends with Gwyneth Paltrow, and the girls’ parents also quickly became family friends.

After high school Maya went to the University of California at Santa Cruz and majored in photography. While there, she joined various successful rock bands, including Supersauce and the Rentals (fronted by Matt Sharp, bassist from Weezer). After The Rentals broke up, Maya joined the famous comedy troupe The Groundlings (alongside Kristen Wiig).

In 2000, Maya and her father worked as music supervisors on Gwyneth’s father Bruce Paltrow’s film ‘Duets’, in which Gwyneth also starred. Also that year, she joined the cast of Saturday Night Live, eventually becoming one of its most popular comedians. Her most famous sketches include an impersonation of Donatella Versace and a R&B girl group called Gemini’s Twin.

In 2005, Maya and her boyfriend (director Paul Thomas Anderson) gave birth to their first child. Since then, the couple have had two more children.

After her success on Saturday Night Live, Maya starred in films like ‘Away We Go’, ‘Grown Ups’, and ‘MacGruber’. She also stars in the hugely popular ‘Bridesmaids’, released on 24th June 2011.
