Steve Carell

When a run of the mill dinner date turns into a high-speed chase through New York City, you can bet funny man Steve Carell is involved. This is precisely what happens in his new movie Date Night, co-starring the equally side-splitting Tina Fey. Luckily, by now, Carell is a pro at making awkward situations hilarious.

Carell got his comedic start in Chicago’s Second City Troupe, while also teaching improvisational classes. He then wrote for the Dana Carvey Show and acted as a correspondent on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. His mainstream film debut came in 2003 in Bruce Almighty, which starred Jim Carey, Morgan Freeman and Jennifer Anniston. Carell’s character, Evan Baxter, was such a hit that he earned his own spin off film, Evan Almighty.

From there, Carell went on to be in films such as 40-Year-Old Virgin, Little Miss Sunshine, Anchorman and Get Smart. Because he is in so many movies with other Hollywood jokesters, the group has earned the title the Frat Pack. Other members of this group include Ben Stiller, Owen and Luke Wilson, Jack Black, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn.

Perhaps Carell’s most recognizable role isn’t in movies, but in television as regional manager Michael Scott on the American version of The Office. His crazy managerial skills have not only earned him a Golden Globe, but also the respect deserved by the World’s Best Boss.

Despite all of the hype, Carell likes to think he’s a pretty normal guy. He and his wife Nancy have two children, and they own a home in Carell’s Massachusetts hometown. “Five years ago, I could have never imagined any of this happening,” he admits. “I try to just enjoy it.” While this all sounds well and good, we have to question the sanity of anyone who would willingly wax his own chest hair on camera for the authenticity of a role. Only you Steve, only you…

Date Night opens on Wednesday, April 21st.
