Sundance Film Festival

Sundance Film Festival

Calling all movie fanatics! It’s that time of year again for one of the coolest independent film festivals around; Sundance. The Sundance Film Festival, held in Utah, is taking place 20-30 of January so began this past weekend, and is a place to enjoy some indie flicks starring up and coming actors as well as directors. You can also catch a glimpse of some established Hollywood actors’ recent movie projects waiting to hit the big screen.

On opening night this past weekend, rapper Snoop Dogg performed for a crowd outside on the cold streets to start the week of films. Many other actors bundled up, packed their winter parkas and headed to Utah to strut their stuff down the red carpet. Such actors and actresses include, Demi Moore, Kate Bosworth, and James Franco to name a few.

Here is a list of the most anticipated films this year

1. Fight For Your Right Revisited - Based on the hit song, “Fight For Your Right (to party),” by the Beastie Boys in 1987, Adam Yauch made a short film as a follow up to this famous music video. It stars funny man, Seth Rogan, Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings) and Danny McBride as the Beastie Boys themselves. Then, in steps some cameos of Will Ferrell (Anchorman), John C. Reilly, and Jack Black. Should be filled with some great laughs with this line up!

2. My Idiot Brother - Family relationships, we all have them and Paul Rudd (How Do You Know? And The Hangover) with the lead role knows sometimes even though you may have good intentions…they may prove to be disastrous, yet humorous at times. He is thrown between family members due to his mishaps, but ends up bringing the family closer together in the end. Staring alongside Rudd, is 500 Days of Summer actress Zooey Deschanel.

3. Margin Call - Staring Hollywood actors, Kevin Spacey, Zachary Quinto, Demi Moore, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons, and Stanely Tucci. This film goes on a journey during the 24-hour period before the 2008 stock market disaster, and the recession we are still in today.

4. Silent House - This may sound like the creepy thriller, “Paranormal Activity,” but it’s definitely something to look out for. It is about a summer house that starts to have some interesting and scary things occur, which leads to the presumption this summer home isn’t as nice as they thought it to be. The lead role stars Elizabeth Olsen, younger sister to the famous Olsen Twins. She is on the rise, and one of the “It Girls” to watch at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

5. The Details - Jeff and Nealy have a young son, living a great suburban life. However there’s one downfall, their marriage is on the rocks. The film is about the tiniest things that can unravel our lives, especially when raccoons are involved! This film is not only stars ex-Spiderman Toby McGuire and Elizabeth Banks (Definitely Maybe), but it has tension, infidelity, organ donation and murder…a very eclectic sort of drama we would say!

6. The Sun of No One - Two words, Channing Tatum. Moving on now, this film features Katie Holmes, Al Pacino, Tracy Morgan, Ray Liotta, and Juliette Binoche. A very star studded cast we must say. The film follows two men who commit murder and get away with it…for 16 years. The two (Morgan, Tatum) return to their hometown and face the consequences, and are forced back together because of their haunting past.

Be sure to keep and eye out for these films to possibly hit Cinema’s in the near future! We will definitely be seeing some of these films on the list!
