Selection of Tasty Tapas at Mimosa

Selection of Tasty Tapas at Mimosa

Tapas; traditionally a wide variety of hot and cold appetizers from Spain is always a very tasty experience.  So when we found out the Mimosa Bar & Restaurant in Knightsbridge was launching its own debut Tapas menu from 11am to 11pm daily, we had to check it out.

Located inside the Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel, approximately 2 mins from Harvey Nichols and the perfect destination for keen shoppers, casual socials and no doubt, the South Kensington pre club scene, Mimosa can easily be described as a haven amongst the haze of  local hotel restaurants, cafes and bars.

Essentially a Bistro; its cream leather soft furnishings effectively contrast with polished teak tables and upholstered chairs  whilst a surprising fusion of Spanish and Moroccan tunes gently play in the background encouraging conversation as is expected with Tapas.  We ordered a bottle of Rivallana Rioja and with our inspired selection of Spanish and Moorish homemade tapas dishes being  prepared in the kitchen; we were indeed set for a night of zest.

The Mimosa also offers a classic brunch and A la carte menu created by head chef Martin Gäbler with some of the dishes, we were  informed; including the actual Mimosa flower within the ingredients.  Something we would have to experience on another occasion, for this night was to be one of  Tapas and as it arrived we soon forgot the A la Carte option whilst engrossed at the assortment of  tasty treats being brought before us.  Chicken Livers, Spicy Chorizo Potatoes with Smoked Paprika, Lamb Kebbeh, Garlic Chicken Wings, Spinach Fatayer and even Cajon Tortilla Chips our conversation now changed to that of the food, the flavour and the fusion.

Authentically served in terracotta bowls the tapas were presented on pastoral table slats with each slat holding three dishes which one would suggest conveniently supports the current £10 promotional offer of any three selected tapas being accompanied by a  complimentary glass of Crianza Rioja.  Perfect for a quick lunch or an afternoon break from designer

shopping, one can understand  this type of promotion being very popular.

The Mimosa bar gracefully sits to the side of the restaurant and although modest in size one would suggest the house specialities  such as a Mimosa Peach Martini or Bloody Mimosa with tomato and clam juice would satisfy the desire for cocktails after work and no doubt the Tapas menu would soon be tempting most on such an occasion.

We ordered some more dishes and as our Provençale Crusted Mussels, Cheese Borek, meatballs in tomato sauce and yet another bowl  of the freshly made Cajon tortilla chips which were served as we were discussing the great benefits of the Mimosa Tapas experience  such as the authentic presentation, diversity of choice and the relaxed bistro atmosphere.  One could easily say the service, setting and selection were totally “Moorish”, Er…no, Spanish, ok… DELICIOUS!
