The Reef 2: High Tide

Half term is upon us and so any parent will be on the look out for things to do to fill the days and entertain the kids. Cinema is always a good bet of course and there are some great releases out today and one we checked out last weekend was The Reef 2: High Tide.

This colourful CGI animated tale sees the return of Pi, the little orange guppy, and his friends and family. Pi’s first adventure saw him defeat Troy, the troublemaking shark and Pi has since been living the good life under the sea admired by his fish peers.
The good life is not set to last for poor Pi and his crew in the reef as Troy and his baddie shark mates come back to create more havoc. In particular deceitful dog shark Ronny approaches the reef disguised as a fish and he takes charge of the situation by convincing the fish they should put on a musical show to attract humans in order to scare off the sharks. Pi’s efforts to train this fellow fish to fight is ignored as everyone get’s excited about showing off their skills in the musical extravaganza. These special skills are soon realised to be useful in other ways eventually the team comes together again to defend their reef.

This is a real feel good film for all the family, my two (age 4 and 7) were gripped throughout, great 3D effects and really bright and colourful to watch and a positive message for kids to learn we all have different skills to help us in different ways.

Pi is voiced by Drake Bell (Drake & Josh, Superhero Movie), Cordelia by Busy Philipps (Freaks & Geeks, Courgartown) and Troy voiced once again by Donal Logue (Blade, Terriers).
