This comedy blockbuster is due for release on 26th December and is an adaptation based on a short story by James Thurber, which follows Walter Mitty, a mild tempered man who lives through escapism and places himself as the heroic lead in a number of different fantasies every day.
The script, written by Steven Conrad modernises the tale and envisions Mitty as a proofreader for a successful magazine publishers. During the beginning of the film we see Walter as a man who, in real every day life, is somewhat of a pushover, unconfident and quietly enamoured of his glossy haired coworker played by the ever delightful Kristen Wiig.
When both risk losing their jobs, Mitty throws himself into a number of high-powered escapades as the hero and main game player. The plot is a cinematographer’s dream, throwing up so many opportunities to go to town with the effects and scenery, and really impress. The team have done an incredible job and with such vitality and variety, the film is an awe inspiring spectacle. It would have been easy for it to become nothing more than just that, a spectacle, were it not for the script and down to earth direction and acting from Stiller.
Already tipped for Oscar success, this new release is one to look out for.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is due for release in the UK on 26th December 2013.
