The streets of LA have been left a little lonely this week, with the celebs all headed to Park City, Utah for the Sundance Film Festival. The ten-day affair, showcases all the top upcoming films, find out which flicks have been debuted so far.

Showing that she isn’t just ‘that girl from Twilight,’ Kristen Stewart has her first premiere with the highly anticipated movie The Runaways, starring Stewart and Dakota Fanning, where we hear even Joan Jett herself was in the audience. The film, which chronicles the rocky rise to fame of teenage Joan Jett and her band mate Cherie Curie, definitely generated some talk among viewers. While it is Stewart who owned the screen in the pair’s last movie New Moon, it is Fanning who steals the show in her role as Curie. Sources say that at times, it is difficult to believe it is even Fanning, as she is so consumed in her role. The girls’ onscreen kiss, also raised a few eyebrows, which was no big deal according to Stewart, “it’s just something that they do.” She even insists that it wasn’t kissing Fanning, but working with real life Jett that was her biggest obstacle.

Stewart’s acting skills are also showcased in Welcome to the Rileys, in which she portrays a 16-year-old stripper taken in by a middle-aged man who has recently lost his daughter. Though this film has seen almost as much hype as The Runaways, there are plenty of non-Kristen Stewart movies also making a debut. One such film is The Killer Inside Me, a film starring Casey Affleck, Jessica Alba and Kate Hudson. This shockingly violent film, which portrays the brutal acts of a Texas police officer, generated audible discomfort from the audience during the film as well as a flurry of angry questions afterward. Even Alba didn’t stay for the whole showing, and neither Affleck or Hudson attended at all…it must be pretty bad for Kate to shy away from the red carpet.

Katie Holmes at The Sundance Film Festival

Howl also drew in a star studded crowd, starring the gorgeous James Franco alongside David Strathairn, John Hamm, Mary-Louise Parker and Jeff Daniels. Here, Franco plays Allen Ginsberg in his obscenity trial for his poem of the same title. While elsewhere The Romantics has its debut, featuring talents like Elijah Wood, Anna Paquin, Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel, Adam Brody, Malin Ackerman and Candice Bergen.

However it hasn’t been all work and no play, we’ve seen a ton of stars out and about trying to escape the paps lens, we spotted Katie Holmes eating a quiet meal with friends, Bradley Cooper and Renee Zellweger trying to dodge the media and Jared Leto being denied access to a VIP room because the bouncer didn’t know who he was. We’re kinda over him too Mr Security!
