Wall Street - Money Never Sleeps

Hollywood has always had a penchant for historical fiction, but history seems to be getting more and more recent these days. A prime example of this is the upcoming film Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, which centres on the stock market crash of 2008.

The sequel to Michael Douglas’s academy award winning 1987 film, the story takes place several decades later, upon Douglas’s character, Gordon Gekko’s release from prison. In the time leading up to the market crash, the reformed financial villain tries to warn his colleagues about the impending failure, but to no avail.

LaBeouf plays Jacob Moore, a young associate of Gekko’s, who just happens to be engaged to his daughter Winnie, played by Carey Mulligan (LaBeouf’s real life girlfriend). As the film unfolds, Moore and Gekko work together to solve a financial mystery, as well as to get Moore’s fiancée to talk to her father again. Josh Brolin, Eli Wallach, Susan Sarandon and Frank Langella also co-star.

The film, directed by Oliver Stone, was set to be released next month, but has recently been pushed back to 8th October, as the studio claims it is better suited to an autumn launch.
